Who doesn’t love seeing beautiful Christmas scenes or decorating? For many people it is the decorating highlight of the year. As beautiful as theses pictures are, imagine the same rooms without their furnishings and wall coverings… not quite the same, obviously. Our Christmas decorating is often complimented by the stuff we have around 12 months out of the year. Or the Christmas decorations cover up or distract from what may have become shabby or past its prime.
Christmas decorations range from homemade to artisan masterpieces. Whatever your style, they can create the mood and atmosphere that suits your personality. In spite of their beauty, we forget that the furniture and wall coverings in these pictures are also part of the ambiance. When the Christmas decorations go away in a week or two and the house looks bare again, look at your furniture and paint and see if you feel as inspired or excited to soak up the vibe your house and rooms give off – if not, it may be time to go to work. Twinkling lights and shiny ornaments won’t cut it the other 11 months of the year so start with the major feature in a room and ask if you really like it. If a sofa set or table group or bedroom suit depresses you or makes you think of a relative you got it from, it might be time to change the mood. While furniture need to be functional, looks are also important.
